Dr. Ali Yavari

Biography: Dr Ali Yavari is Senior Research Fellow at School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. He has received his Master of Science degree in Communication Systems from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and his Ph.D. from School of Computer Science and Information Technology at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Australia.

Ali had been affiliated with Digital Productivity Flagship and Data61 at CSIRO. Prior to that, he was Research Engineer at KTH University in Communication Systems Department and contributed to several research projects including SeRMon and COSEM. Ali has been working for more than ten years in IT industry as project manager, system designer, and developer for aviation, bank, and IT companies in several countries.

He serves as program committee member and designated reviewer in several international conferences and workshops. Ali had served as a committee member in Computer Society Chapter at IEEE Victorian Section. He is also a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

As chief investigator, Dr Yavari has significantly contributed to several European and Australian research and development projects supported by external research funding from industry collaborators or/and government. These projects were mostly collaborative with large companies and organisations including, but not limited to, EIT ICT Lab, Wireless@KTH, TeliaSonera, Vinnova, Ericsson, Asahi Beverages, Optus, Telstra, Software AG, Australian Meat Processor Corporation, and Siemens. The main focus of these projects were/are human-computer interactions, advanced resource and network management for mobile networks particularly multimedia streaming, Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing, smart supply chain management and quality monitoring, smart healthcare (Health 4.0), computer and network Security, and compliance monitoring (e.g., food safety).

Ali has awarded with several prestigious awards such as 1) Highly Commended Mention in Vice-Chancellor’s Research Excellence (Early Career) Award and 2) Faculty of Science Engineering and Technology Research Collaboration Across Non-traditional Boundaries Award from Swinburne University of Technology, 3) Best paper award from Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences Conference, 4) Creativity Award from Oracle, and 5) First prize at the Unearthed Hackathon.

Dr Yavari has received the prestigious Victoria Fellowship in Physical Sciences from the Victoria State Government (The Hon. Jaala Pulford).

Being fascinated about teaching and supervision, Ali has supervised several students and capstone projects mainly in the area of IoT, cloud computing, Industry 4.0, big data analytic, and machine learning. he has developed and designed curriculum for several units such as IoT programming and Topics in Computer Science.
